DeMorgenzon’s Reserve Chenin Blanc comes from low-yielding vines that were planted in 1972 in decomposed granite soils. This show-stopping white displays effusive aromas of white flower, stone fruit, honey and toast which erupt into opulent flavours of pear, orange blossom, caramel and spice. It’s a world class wine that strikes a brilliant balance between lush fruit and crisp, mouth-watering acidity.
Winemaker notes: On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of ripe peach and apricot with a fragrant floral undertone. This is layered with subtle notes of toasted almond and a hint of vanilla. The palate is generous with the creamy texture working beautifully with the vibrant acidity. Layers of pear, honeyed citrus, and Golden Delicious apple. The oak influence is evident but impeccably integrated, offering nuances of nutmeg and a hint of flint and smokiness that adds depth and dimension to the wine. The finish is long and lingering, leaving a lasting impression of well-balanced richness and finesse.

Who said that white wine will not cope with the richness of red meat if this is accompanied by a piece or lobster or grilled gambas for example? If you are a Surf & Turf lover like us, and perhaps do not fancy a red wine, you should not disqualify full bodied and silky smooth, barrel aged white wines. Look for a dry and fruity white wine that has enough intensity to stand up to the dish. A creamy, full bodied Chardonnay from California, Australia, South Africa and of course high quality white Burgundy will be the ultimate pairing. A barrel aged Viognier like Condrieu will be another luxury option. One of our all-time favourite pairings with Surf & Turf is this Reserve Chenin which you must try!
