Gabriella Ferrara manages this small estate, that has been in her family for many generations, together with her husband Sergio. The major part of the vineyards (8 hectares) stands in the district of San Paolo within the commune of Tufo, which is considered the best zone for the Greco grape variety. The altitude is ideal between 450 and 600 meters above sea level with southern exposure, the area is cool and airy, which naturally protects the vines against frosts and diseases. The Greco vineyards stand next to abandoned sulphur mines and sulphur rocks can be found amongst the vines: this gives the wines wonderful mineral notes.
TASTING: Pale yellow colour more or less intense, clean, dry taste, pleasantly harmonious, with the unmistakable scent of bitter almonds.
Vinous 91 points "Varietally accurate aromas of ripe tropical fruit, peach and minerals. Then rich and dense, with typical chewy texture and vibrant saline acidity providing noteworthy clarity and cut. The finish is rich and tactile and features a peppery nuance."
A favourite pairing of with Tartiflette is this stunning Greco di Tufo - the salty bacon lardons picks out the slight salinity in the wine, and it has enough richness to stand up to the cheese. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
For prawns like with anything else, it depends on how you prepare them. In the south of Italy they are served raw (or with simple lemon juice) with a well-chilled glass of Fiano. Simply served in shells will need a delicate and not too aromatic white like Muscadet, Vino Verde or this delicious and elegant Greco will be great!
