The 2019 Brunellos and 2018 Riservas are already causing quite a stir in the trade. Sesti have just hit the market and are truly phenomenal wines.
The freshness and delicacy of these wines is always impressive, but this release really stands out for its quality and accessibility, both wines are already drinking beautifully displaying all of Brunello’s most compelling features.
The critics are beginning to recognise the impressiveness of this estate, with Erica Guido of Vinous commenting that the 2019 Brunello “pulls the taster close to the glass” and will enjoy a “long and broad drinking window”, while he describes the 2018 Phenomena Riserva as “beguiling”, and “vivid”. The best internal selection of 100% SANGIOVESE grapes produced on the estate are dedicated to this wine, the cuttings of which were originally selected from very old neighbouring vineyards. To fertilise vineyards and olive groves only vegetables and animal manure are used also for the spraying biodegradable produce are used. After the fermentation the wine is transferred to medium size oak barrels (10 to 30 Hectolitres) where it remains for three years before being refined in the bottle for another year, when it is ready to be sold under the denomination DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) a title which only few wines in Italy can boast. Harvested by hand.

"Lustrous ruby. A simply stunning, complex nose of taut cherry layered with garden herbs. Lots of juice that is fantastically balanced by gorgeous, fine-grained tannins. Complete." (WS)

Tasted by: Michaela Morris (at Chiostro Museo Montalcino, 14 Nov 2023) Part of Brunello di Montalcino 2019 – ‘spoiled for choice’: Full report
"Drinking Window: 2025 - 2037 - Planted in 1986 on Montalcino’s southern slopes, Sesti’s 13 hectares are freshened by an eastward tilt, constant breezes and surrounding woodlands. Ripeness allies with brightness, particularly in this 2019, which recalls the joyfulness of the estate’s IGT and Rosso di Montalcino counterparts but with the gravitas of Brunello. There's a sweetness of fruit and fragrance as sandalwood, arbutus shrub and vanilla bean suffuse lush red cherry, and it flows with grace and ease. Yet as becoming as this seems to be now, it is tightly wound underneath that gracious core – the intricate structure is fashioned for endurance."
