Niepoort has been an independent family business since its creation in 1842. Today it is led by the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort, supported by his sons Daniel and Marco. Dirk has been a relentless innovator and creative throughout his time at Niepoort. One of his early priorities was to purchase parcels of old, steep (and often north facing) vineyards in the Douro to give greater control over supply. Quinta de Napoles was purchased in 1987 with thirty hectares and Quinta do Carril followed in 1988 with nine hectares. Niepoort now own over eighty hectares of vineyards in the Douro, all farmed organically.
What’s there in common between a bottle of red wine and an animated film? At first glance, apparently nothing. But if we have time to see instead of just looking, we begin to detect some coincidences: the design of the label... the shadows... the person who designed it... the name of the wine... the one who produced it... But the greatest evidence unfolds when we taste the wine, especially if the film in question is about a vampire called KALi. And then... a good bottle of wine can last for an eternity. Vampires too... the one in this film, in any case, lives forever.
The wine has an intense hue, concentrated revealing violet tones when swirled. Earl Grey notes combine with black berries, hints of graphite and a subtle minty character which lends the wine complexity and freshness. The palate is wonderfully round and elegant, with pronounced acidity. This is an uncomplicated red wine from the Douro Valley. A wine which shows off its origins and its abundance of grape varieties in an elegant, fresh and easy-drinking interpretation of the terroir.
Food: White meats, pasta and vegetarian dishes.
