Named after Anthony Hamilton Russell’s great, great grandfather, Lord Ashbourne, who was Lord Chancellor for Ireland in the late 1800s, Ashbourne 2019 is a 100% Pinotage. The aim was to achieve marked classical styling with a defined South African personality.
"The 2019 Ashbourne Pinotage/Cinsault is a blend of 86% and 14% respectively. It has a strong menthol and star-anise-tinged bouquet not unlike that of the Southern Right Pinotage. The palate is quite different, though; fleshier, with more red fruit and better delineation toward the lightly spiced, rooibos-tinged finish. One of the best recent releases from the Hamiltons." - Neal Martin
96 points Tim Atkin MW - "Made with the touch of top Pinot Noir producer, Emul Ross's Pinotage is one of the most nuanced and complex in the Cape. Floral, racy and nuanced, with delicate tannins, wild strawberry and pomegranate fruit, some pepper spice from partial stem addition and a fine, tapering finish. Bravo!" One of Tim Atkin’s Pinotage of the Year in his 2021 South African Report.
