Domaine Faury is located in the tiny hamlet of Ribaudy on the upper slopes of Chavanay. Until 1980s, wine was sold here in bulk, primarily to the local population, and fruit (peaches and cherries) were also grown here. Father Philippe Faury ( the chairman of the Syndicat Condrieu until 2004) took a more international approach, and since 2006, his son Lionel (3rd generation) has taken over the business. Lionel is typical of the ‘new generation’, who trained as oenologists and then worked as apprentices in other wine-growing areas, including California.
Grapes for this wine are from 45 to 65-year-old vines, which interestingly benefit from being north facing as the windiness means for a longer ripening period, producing an intense, characterful wine which will benefit from ageing. Some say the finest St Joseph of the North!
