Like it’s little brother, this hugely impressive Malbec is nonetheless distinctly under-stated in every respect and thus achieves true greatness. The 14 months’ oak ageing, for example, takes place in very light toast French barrels and the influence on the wine is very delicate and cleverly interwoven. It is really the quality of the fruit from these very old vines, the intensity of which shines through in the hands of winemaker Juan Manuel González, which forms the basis of this amazing yet humble, statement wine. Only 5,657 bottles produced and we feel quite privileged to have bagged a few hundred.
