Alpha Zeta was started in 1999 when David Gleave and New Zealand winemaker, Matt Thompson, set out to produce a range of modern, fruit-forward wines from the hills outside Verona. Their aim was to work closely with the local growers to obtain high quality grapes by reducing yields and harvesting later in the season. The grapes are picked in mid-September and left to dry in specially ventilated rooms until the end of January, when they are destemmed and crushed.
This Amarone was matured in oak for 18 months before bottling. 85% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, this Amarone is deep and intense on the nose with aromas of dried cherries, plums, spiced autumn fruit compote and chocolate. On the palate, it is powerful, with a lovely balance of ripe, silky tannins and spiced, concentrated savoury cherry fruit character. A touch of woodsmoke completes the long finish. SUITABLE FOR VEGANS.
