An absolutely stunning red dessert wine that's excellent with chocolate or gateaux. 100% Grenache Noir from old vines grown on calcareous: schistous soils. Robert Pouderoux carries on the tradition of his grandfather with close respect for the vineyards. Yields are very low: and the grapes are hand harvested. Tasting Note. Cherry with some blackberries, chocolate and prune coming off the nose. The palate is nicely structured, with more chocolate and red berries. A very fruit forward style of fortified wine which is so well integrated.
COMPULSORY WITH CHOCOLATE!
Similarly with semifreddo (semi-frozen desserts) consider the ingredients and flavours in the dish. For example a chocolate semifreddo will work very well with an aged Tawny port (especially if roasted hazelnuts or walnuts are part of the dish). If the chocolate semifreddo also contains black cherries or blackberries, then a fortified Grenache from Roussilion like Banyuls or Maury such as this one with plenty of dark berry fruit and sweetness will be ideal. It will also work brilliantly with Black Forest Gateau, chocolate mousse and other chocolate cakes.
