One of the characters of the region together with his daughter Marie who joined him in 2006. Charles Hours produces two deeply flavoured full wines from his 16 hectares of steep sloping, limestone vineyards. The first, Cuvée Marie, a dry Jurançon, is made from 1/3 Gros Manseng and 2/3 Petit Courbu. Quite delicious and possibly the best in the region. The second, his Moelleux, Uroulat, made from Petit Manseng, is rich and generous, and because of the dry climate tends to be made with passerillage rather than botrytised grapes.
Everything here is totally natural. Both wines are barrel fermented (10% new for Cuvée Marie and 20% new for Uroulat) and seem beautifully pure, just like the glorious hillside where Charles Hours lives surrounded by his vineyards. These wines can be drunk young but they also age superbly.
