Artist-alchemist duo Adrinadrina and Elliott Coon, both daughters of Bohemian-bootleggers, started crafting their own spirits and elixirs under the name Gem&Bolt. The pair drew inspiration from their shared childhood, galvanised in the Virginia wilderness amidst an enclave of renegade artists, where they came to understand the true value of plants and conscious celebration. Damiana, a local herb thought to have a plethora of benefits including “endowing mythic powers in the bedroom,” is added to the mezcal made from espadín agave. The agave is fair trade, organic, and sustainable and no additives are added to the finished product. This savoury-sweet mezcal will remind many of pizza, given sun-dried tomato sweetness coupled with green notes of fresh oregano, thyme and mint. The spicy finish is sprinkled with white and black pepper, plus a prickle of jalapeño heat.
