Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada laid the groundwork for one of the most popular Tequilas in the world at the tender age of 17. His passion and enterprising spirit helped to secure a loan from one of the wealthiest merchants in the Mexican town of Atotonilco El Alto, which he used to open a distillery called La Primavera. The name – meaning ‘spring’ in Spanish – proved apt for both Julio’s new beginning and the subsequent burgeoning of the Tequila industry. In the 40 years that followed he built a reputation for prioritising quality over quantity. He always ensured there was sufficient time and space for his agave plants to reach peak maturity in order to achieve the best flavour in his Tequila.
This small-batch Anejo Tequila, launched in 2002 to mark 60 years since Don Julio González departed on his Tequila-making journey. It is aged for up to two-and-a-half-years in American white oak casks and filled into an elegant, tapered bottle, reminiscent of an agave leaf, or ‘penca’. This is a remarkably well-polished, yet complex, Tequila with aromas of Turkish delight, cassia bark and toffee on the nose, complemented by notes of charred grapefruit peel, toasted hazelnut and pleasing hints of vanilla throughout the palate.
Celebrated in exclusive cocktail bars, restaurants and nightclubs, the iconic Don Julio 1942® Tequila is the choice of connoisseurs around the globe.
