2017 is the sixth release of Leclerc Briant’s Cuvée Abyss, which has been capturing the imagination and attention of the fine wine world since day one. Made up of one third each of the noble Champagne varieties, the wine is vinified and rested in a combination of stainless steel & second fill barrique (from Chateau d’Yquem & Chateaux Haut-Brion), for 10 months prior to secondary fermentation, followed by 3 years of lees aging in their historic cellars in Epernay.
Once disgorged, Abyss is given new life. The wines are submerged off the coast of Brittany where the Atlantic & The Channel meet, a convergence of energy and water mass. At a depth of 60 meters, the pressure outside the bottle is equal to that within, with no oxygen or light, an ideal environment for the maturation of Champagne. This is where the Houses’ bioenergetic philosophy is affirmed. After a year in the deep in a permanent state of tidal movement, this environment gives the wine profound energy and uplifting harmonic character.
