Choosing Wines for Weddings and Functions
When organising a wedding (or other large function) there are so many things to decide on, from the colours of the bridesmaids dresses, to who sits next to Uncle Bill! We at Dunell's would like to make at least one of your choices a little easier for you. We currently offer a range of more than 1000 wines and our sales team have a combined experience of over 100 years in the Wine Trade. We are confident that we will be able to help you find your ideal choices. Please feel free to contact us as early as possible, as we can often offer advice and recommendations on your choice of an appropriate venue or caterer.
When selecting wine for your reception, it is very important to chose wines that everyone will enjoy and also that fit in to your available budget. The wines need to have mass appeal, be approachable and have that very important ‘drinkability quality’. The wine needs to be suitably matched to the food that is being served, and also to the time of year (a big heavy red on a hot summers day can result in your guests feeling very sleepy!). Starting your wine selection process as early as possible ensures that you are able to enjoy the tasting and selecting process, and end up with wines that not only will everyone enjoy, but also fit within your available budget. Once we know what style of wine you are looking for, we can help you choose a selection of wines to take home and try or you are welcome to join us for a personal wine tasting here in our shop.
We recommend that you try this selection of suitable wines with similar foods to the menu selected for the event (to ensure the food and wine compliment each other) before making your final selection. This has often proven to be a fun tasting that you can involve your family and friends in, therefore making them feel involved in your big day. Once the choice is made, we will allocate the chosen quantity of wine to you and hold the stock in our temperature-controlled warehouse until delivery is required, ensuring that there are no last-minute problems.
It is often financially advantageous to buy your wines directly from us and to pay corkage to your caterer, restaurant or hotel. We will happily work with your chosen caterer or venue to help ensure that all wines are served at the correct temperatures.
